Fisheries programme
BLUEFISH
Jun 1, 2022 – Dec 31, 2025
Completed
Programme promoting sustainable catch handling, fish processing, and blue-economy value chains along the Puntland coast.
BLUEFISH promotes sustainable catch handling, fish processing, and blue-economy value chains along the Puntland coastline. The programme supports processors and traders to reduce post-harvest losses and meet basic quality and hygiene expectations for domestic and regional markets.
Training covers proper icing, handling, drying and smoking techniques where appropriate, and simple record-keeping for cooperatives and small enterprises. BLUEFISH also encourages adoption of energy-efficient processing practices and safer workplace arrangements in fish markets and processing sheds.
By connecting coastal producers to buyers and extension services, the programme helps households diversify income beyond raw catch sales. Partnerships with research, finance, and NGO actors expand access to equipment, packaging materials, and market information.
BLUEFISH contributes to MOFMR's goal of a competitive, inclusive fisheries sector that adds value at source while respecting stock health and environmental standards.
